Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Experiential Learning and Short-Term Education Abroad Programs in the Office of International & Study Abroad Programs is a key member of the study abroad office team. They contribute to advancing the mission of the office by working with other key staff members in the management of and advising for the university’s undergraduate short-term programs (summer, winter intersession, and faculty-led programs) as well as programs focused on community engagement, internships, and student research abroad.
Essential Functions
- Oversees and implements the faculty-led program proposal process.
- In collaboration with the Director and other University offices, manages key enrollment processes including student registration, insurance enrollment, and visa processing for short-term and Experiential Learning programs.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director for London and Granada programs and Fordham London, manages the marketing, advising, and implementation of the London Internship program and opportunities for community engagement.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director for London and Granada programs and Fordham in Granada, manages the marketing and facilitation of Granada internships and other opportunities for community engagement.
- Oversees the development of and marketing for study abroad programs focused on community engagement, research, and internships in collaboration with Assistant Director for Partner and Exchange programs and overseas partners.
- Works closely with faculty engaged in developing short-term study abroad programs.
- Serves as primary contact and advisor for students interested in short-term study abroad or experiential learning while abroad
- Works closely with staff in the organization of study abroad events such as fairs, advising sessions, orientation, and pre-departure sessions with emphasis on financing, health, and safety.
- Attends, as requested, study abroad fairs to promote Fordham Abroad Programs.
- Member of the Review Committee which reviews applications and maintains Fordham’s Roster of Study Abroad Programs and Study Abroad Guidelines and Policies.
- Principal advisor for a portfolio of programs based on background and experience.
- May be asked to participate in familiarization visits and professional conferences.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director.

- The Assistant Director for Experiential Learning and Short-Term Education Abroad Programs will report to the Director of the Office of International & Study Abroad Programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 1-2 years of work experience in a higher education setting
- Previous experience studying abroad at the undergraduate level
- Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Banner and other web-based systems.
- Experience working with and advising undergraduate students
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy office
- Knowledge of basic principles and issues of study abroad advising education abroad program development
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including inter-cultural and interpersonal communication; the ability to perceive context and audience and to adapt oral and written communication accordingly.
- Experience working with members of a college or university faculty
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Minimum Starting Salary: $58,500
Maximum Starting Salary: $62,500
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
